Travel pillow created as part of the “Uniforms Given a New Purpose” project

Following toiletry bags, laptop bags, tote bags, and other products made from retired Air Serbia employee uniforms, the Child’s Heart humanitarian organisation has prepared another product as part of the joint “Uniforms Given a New Purpose” project. This time, it is a travel pillow made from material originating from former uniforms, continuing the process of repurposing them into practical and durable items.

The new product was made from skirts that were part of employee uniforms, while leftover material from vests intended for the production of laptop bags was used as filling. In this way, surplus material was also given a new purpose, further reducing the amount of textile waste.

The partnership between Air Serbia and Child’s Heart was launched with the aim of giving retired uniforms of the national airline a new purpose. Different parts of the uniforms are used to create items that have practical value and can continue their lifecycle in a completely new form.

The project is also particularly significant for its social component, as people with developmental disabilities engaged through Child’s Heart are involved in the production process. In this way, the project combines sustainable resource management with support for inclusion and the creation of employment opportunities.

Creating the travel pillow marks another step towards making the fullest possible use of the available material. Even the remnants left over after the production of previous products have been given a new purpose, further confirming the idea behind the project: with good design, creativity and careful planning, the lifespan of textiles can be significantly extended.

“From the very beginning, we wanted this project to show how sustainability can also be incorporated into everyday business processes. It is particularly important to us that we are able to find a new purpose even for material that has already been used to make other products, because in this way we are truly making use of every part of it. The travel pillow is another great example of how old uniforms can be given a completely new purpose, while at the same time supporting an important social initiative,” said Bojana Knežević, Head of Marketing and Guest Experience.

The “Uniforms Given a New Purpose” project is part of Air Serbia’s efforts to implement sustainability principles through concrete activities that can have long-term impact. By repurposing retired uniforms, the amount of textile waste is reduced, the lifespan of existing materials is extended and a more responsible approach to resources is encouraged.

The new travel pillow is a continuation of this idea and another product demonstrating that uniforms, even after their original purpose has come to an end, can remain part of Air Serbia’s story in a completely different form.
