Children travelling alone

We care for the safety and security of the youngest among us travelling alone. With our Unaccompanied Minor service, they are in the best hands - we make their stay at the airport before take-off and after landing as pleasant as the flight itself.

  • Can Unaccompanied Minor service be provided for children under the age of 5 for travel within Europe and between Europe and the Middle East, or under the age of 7 between Europe and the United States?

No. Children under the age of 5 traveling within Europe and between Europe and the Middle East, as well as children under the age of 7 traveling between Europe and the United States, cannot be accepted on our flights as unaccompanied children. They can only travel with a parent, guardian, brother, sister or any other person authorized by the parent or guardian who is at least 16 years old.

  • Can unaccompanied children travel with a pet?

No. Children who require the Unaccompanied Minor service cannot carry a pet in the cabin.

  • Is parental consent required for the child's travel?

In most cases, the authorisation of the parent/guardian is required for unaccompanied minors to travel abroad. For more information, we recommend that you contact the local authorities in your country. For children who are citizens of Republic of Serbia the written consent of parents certified by a notary public is required to travel abroad alone.

This applies to children travelling abroad alone with an Unaccompanied Minor service booked as well as to minors up to 16 years of age who travel abroad alone without the service booked.

  • Is it possible to provide the Unaccompanied Minor service for children older than 12?

Yes. Although the service is not required for children over the age of 12, we can provide it for travellers under the age of 17 at the request of a parent/guardian.

  • Can I book a Meet and Assist service (MAAS) instead of Unaccompanied Minor service for a child?

No. Children under the age of 12 are only eligible for the Unaccompanied Minor service. The Unaccompanied Minor service includes assistance, as well as supervision and care for our youngest passengers throughout the duration the entire trip.

  • Can the Unaccompanied Minor service be paid for with Etihad Guest miles?

    No.

  • Is it possible to buy a ticket for unaccompanied children using Etihad Guest Miles?

No. Buying a ticket using Etihad Guest miles is not possible for children requiring this service.

  • Can an unaccompanied child travel in business class?

    No.

  • Does the form have to be printed in colour?

    No.

  • Can I reserve a seat for the child?

No. A seat will be provided upon check-in for the flight at the airport.

  • Can the Unaccompanied Minor fee be refunded?

In case of voluntary cancellation of the service, the service fee will not be refunded.

Reimbursement of the service is independent of the refund of the electronic ticket.

The service will be refunded only if the Airline for any reason is unable to provide the service or is unable to perform the flight for which the service was booked.
