Under the US DOT order 2009-9-20 (05Oct09), the following baggage regulations apply for travel to/from the USA:
- The carrier whose designator code is identified on the first flight segment of your itinerary is usually the carrier whose baggage rules will apply to the entire journey, provided also that this carrier has traffic rights to/from the U.S. and has filed general rules tariffs with DOT.
- In case of itineraries where the first flight is operated on a code-share basis, the rules of the carrier, acting as the Marketing Carrier on the first flight apply, in most cases, to the entire journey, provided the Marketing Carrier has economy rights to operate direct flights to/from the U.S. and has filed general rules tariffs with DOT.
- Air Serbia has traffic rights to/from the U.S. and has filed general rules tariffs with DOT. In cases when Air Serbia meets the above requirements, its baggage rules will usually apply to the entire journey.
- In the event of tickets for journeys that initially depart from/finally arrive to U.S. territory, all carriers must apply the same baggage policy and fees throughout a passenger's journey (including the return), regardless of stopovers.
- Excess baggage charges and other baggage charges, if any, will apply from the point of baggage check-in until the next stop-over, or the next point of baggage collection. Thus, each time baggage is re-checked by the passenger, the same charges will apply.
- Each operating carrier's carry-on baggage allowances will apply to the flight segment in an interline itinerary operated by that carrier.
- If another carrier is the carrier whose designator code is identified on the first flight segment of your itinerary, that carrier has the right to choose to apply its baggage rules or the rules of the MSC (Most Significant Carrier) or those of any other carrier on the single ticket. In this case, its baggage rules or rules of the MSC (Most Significant Carrier) will apply to Air Serbia's flight as well, if Air Serbia's flight is also part of the itinerary.
- The applicable free baggage allowance will be shown on your electronic ticket and in the e-mail confirmation.
- Dimensions, weight, and fee (if any) will be shown for the first two pieces of checked baggage, as well as for the carry-on (hand baggage). These data will also be shown on your e-ticket and in the e-mail confirmation.
