Record Air Serbia passenger numbers
Since the beginning of 2023, Air Serbia has carried 2.76 million passengers, thus already surpassing the total number of passengers carried throughout 2022 by the end of August. It is expected that the result of 2.81 million passengers, achieved in the previously most successful year of 2019, will be exceeded in the first week of September.
"The current summer season will be remembered for numerous challenges. Bad weather conditions, frequent refuelling bans, insufficient staff at airports, a global shortage of spare parts, and other unfavourable circumstances have affected the operations throughout the summer. Despite it all, during July and August, we carried over a million passengers to more than 80 destinations worldwide, thus breaking our records set even before the COVID-19 pandemic. The most intensive month was July, during which we carried 27 per cent more passengers compared to July 2022, and 39 per cent more compared to the same month in 2019. Good results were also recorded in August, which was our 14th consecutive record-breaking month. At this moment, we are already intensively preparing for the upcoming winter season, which is expected to be very dynamic," said Jiri Marek, Air Serbia CEO.
The most popular destinations during July and August 2023 in the region were Tivat and Podgorica. When it comes to Western Europe, passengers visited Zurich, Paris, and Amsterdam the most, while in the wider Euro-Mediterranean zone, popular destinations included Istanbul, Larnaca, Athens, and Barcelona. Among the long-haul destinations, New York ranks among the top ten destinations in terms of the number of passengers during the mentioned two summer months.
