Air Serbia has carried more than 1.2 million passengers from January to September 2021

21 October 2021

From January to September 2021, Air Serbia carried a total of 1,257,597 passengers on its scheduled and charter flights, achieving a 51% market share at the Airport Nikola Tesla Belgrade, compared to the total number of passengers handled at the Belgrade airport. Having a 45% share in the first nine months of 2019, the national carrier managed to increase its share by 6 percentage points in just two years.

In the first three quarters of 2021, the national airline Air Serbia carried 40% more passengers than during the entirety of 2020, which was marked by the biggest crisis in the history of global air transport, when it carried 899,877 passengers in total.

In 2020 and 2021, Air Serbia managed to achieve better results than industry average according to the majority of indicators, in spite of the coronavirus pandemic and travel restrictions. With the summer season and increased demand for scheduled and charter flights, Air Serbia slashed the difference in the number of passengers carried in August 2021 to -24.3% compared to the same month of the record-breaking 2019, while the global average was -63.3%, and European average was -52%.

“We are proud of the results achieved in the first nine months of 2021, especially having in mind the specific circumstances in which we are operating. We carefully monitor the demand all the time and adjust our capacities on the most popular destinations in our network. We believe that it was this flexibility and quick response that contributed the most to the result. We are especially happy that, as the largest carrier at the Belgrade airport, we have made a significant contribution to the recovery of the overall traffic. In the upcoming period, we will remain committed to our goal of fully returning to the level from 2019, but with a dose of caution, focusing on monitoring the development of the situation”, said Jiri Marek, General Manager Commercial and Strategy at Air Serbia.

Air Serbia carried 193,000 passengers in total in September on scheduled and charter flights, which is 80% more compared to the same month in 2020, when it carried 107,464 passengers.

The national airline achieved constant growth in passenger numbers since the start of the summer season, having carried 68% more passengers in June than in May, while the July result was 63% higher compared to June. In August, Air Serbia carried more than 300,000 passengers on scheduled and charter flights, which is the monthly record in 2021.
