Air Serbia to introduce flights to Amman, Lyon and Sochi
25 January 2022

Starting 1 June 2022, Air Serbia will commence scheduled direct flights between Belgrade and Amman, Jordan and from 3 June, it will commence a scheduled service between the Serbian capital and Lyon, France. Amman and Lyon flights are available for booking as of today. Also, it is planned to launch scheduled flights to Sochi in Russia on June 2.

Flights on the Belgrade - Amman route will be operated four times a week year-round, except in the winter when the route will be served with three weekly flights. By launching this route, Air Serbia will provide seamless connections, via Belgrade, between Amman and other destinations in its network, such as Berlin, Vienna, Zurich, Ljubljana, Milan, Paris, Prague, Podgorica, Rome, Stuttgart, Tivat, Trieste, Venice and Zagreb. Amman flights were originally planned to commence in June 2020, but were postponed until further notice due to the coronavirus pandemic. Until 2001, direct flights on this route were operated by its predecessor JAT Yugoslav Airlines.

As the capital and largest city of Jordan, Amman is the economic, political and cultural centre of the country. As one of the longest-inhabited cities in the world, Amman is today one of the most popular destinations in the Middle East, whose main attraction is the old town with narrow streets and many souks.

"The decision to introduce direct flights to Amman is a result of the strategic importance of renewing our presence in the Middle East region, while the planned commencement of the flights to Sochi is the result of the significance of the Russian market for Air Serbia and the fact that this tourist destination is underserved with direct international flights. Thanks to extremely successful routes to Krasnodar and Rostov-on-Don, we have positioned ourselves as one of the airlines with the largest market share between Russia and the Balkans. We are also focused on strengthening our presence in France, which is why we are launching flights to Lyon, being one of the wealthiest regions in the country and market with great potential. We are happy to be adding these new destinations to our network and looking forward to further expansion in the upcoming period," said Boško Rupić, Head of Sales at Air Serbia.

Flights to Lyon, Air Serbia's third destination in France, following Paris and Nice, will be operated twice a week. By introducing flights to Lyon, Air Serbia will offer good connections, via Belgrade, between this city and other destinations in its network, such as Athens, Bucharest, Istanbul, Larnaca, Podgorica, Sarajevo, Skopje, Sofia, Thessaloniki, Tirana and Tivat.

As the third largest city in France, located at the confluence of the Saone and Rhône rivers, Lyon is brimming with a rich history. The old part of the city, which is under the protection of UNESCO, is one of the largest areas of Renaissance architecture in Europe. Recognizable by the narrow streets once travelled by silk merchants, today, Lyon is a modern and urban city, full of traditional restaurants and sights that take visitors back to the Renaissance age.

On the route between Belgrade and Sochi, the Serbian national airline is planned to operate flights twice a week, providing good connections with Western Europe, which currently has no direct connection to the internationally popular resort on the Black Sea coast. By establishing this route, Air Serbia will provide great connections, via Belgrade, between Sochi and other destinations in its network, such as Berlin, Vienna, Zurich, Dusseldorf, London, Ljubljana, Milan, Paris, Prague, Podgorica, Rome, Tivat, Venice and Zagreb.

As part of the Caucasian Riviera, Sochi is one of the few places in Russia with a subtropical climate characterized by long summers and mild winters. The city in which all the climatic and natural potentials for complete relaxation and enjoyment are concentrated is one of the favourite destinations of both domestic and foreign tourists, who can enjoy the view of the snow-capped mountains from the beaches.

When it comes to flights between Belgrade and Sochi, Air Serbia is in the process of obtaining necessary approvals from the relevant aviation authorities, after which flights will be available for booking.
